# Privacy DEX

Private swaps, a USDC vault, and limit orders on Solana devnet.

Privacy DEX swaps tokens on Solana and puts the tokens you receive in your Helius Privacy private balance. A **private balance** holds encrypted records called **notes**, each containing a token and an amount. The app decrypts your notes in the browser so you can see and use your balance. Your wallet signs the transactions that spend it.

Rome's **market maker** supplies the tokens you trade for and offers **quotes**: signed terms for a swap, including its amounts, fee, and expiry. Rome's escrow program checks the signed quote and the proofs before settling the trade on Solana.

Open [Privacy DEX on Solana devnet](https://privacy-dex.devnet.romeprotocol.xyz). Helius Privacy is in beta. This release runs on Solana devnet only.

## What you can do

A market swap on the swap card exchanges USDC for SOL on Solana devnet. Choose **Wallet** to pay public USDC and receive private SOL. Choose **Private balance** to pay private USDC and receive private SOL. The card's **Limit price** option places orders in either direction.

You can also:

* Add tokens to your private balance without swapping them.
* Move funds to a wallet or send them to another person.
* Review your private activity and swap attempts.
* Put USDC into a vault in exchange for share tokens, which you can exchange back for USDC. Their value grows at 2% a year, with simple growth from the vault's start. Rome sets this rate and pays for it on devnet. The rate is not enforced on chain, and Rome can change it.
* Place a limit order in either direction of a pair and cancel its unfilled part.

## Connect with Solflare

Use **Solflare** for this release. It supports the version 1 transactions used by Privacy DEX on Solana devnet. It also signs the message used to derive your private account's keys.

Phantom is not supported in this release because it does not sign version 1 transactions on Solana devnet. The app requires that transaction version when connecting a wallet.

## Choose a guide

* [Swaps and the private balance](/apps-on-rome/privacy-dex/swaps.md) covers quotes, wallet approvals, funding, sending, activity, unlocking, and backup.
* [Vaults](/apps-on-rome/privacy-dex/vaults.md) explains vUSDC, the rate, and putting in or taking out USDC.
* [Limit orders](/apps-on-rome/privacy-dex/limit-orders.md) covers placing, matching, fees, and cancellation.
* [What is private](/apps-on-rome/privacy-dex/what-is-private.md) explains what the chain and services see.

Your address remains visible even when the amount is private. Paying from a wallet exposes the token and amount. Read the privacy guide before choosing how to fund a trade.

## Querying This Documentation
If you need additional information that is not directly available in this page, you can query the documentation by asking a question.

Perform an HTTP GET request on the following URL with the `ask` and `goal` query parameters:

```
GET https://docs.rome.builders/apps-on-rome/privacy-dex.md?ask=<question>&goal=<user_goal>
```

`ask` is the immediate question: it should be specific, self-contained, and written in natural language.
`goal` is what the user is ultimately trying to achieve, the reason they need the answer. Sharing it helps GitBook give you a better, more relevant answer. A goal is most helpful when it describes the outcome the user wants rather than restating the question. For example, with `ask=how do I create an API token`, a goal like `automate deployments from our CI pipeline` lets GitBook tailor the answer to that use case.

The response will contain a direct answer to the question and relevant excerpts and sources from the documentation.

Use this mechanism when the answer is not explicitly present in the current page, you need clarification or additional context, or you want to retrieve related documentation sections.
